I don’t know about y’all, but my life can get pretty hectic. Most days consist of homework, cleaning, taking care of the kids and dogs, cleaning, cleaning, and did I mention cleaning? If I don’t make a list of what I need to do, 9 times of 10, it won’t get done.
I suffer from what I like to call “mommy brain”. I start working on homework, cleaning, writing, bible study, trying to take a nap (!), but the baby is hungry or the 4 year old has millions of questions (that have to be answered right now) or the puppy has an accident (again). By the time I’m done handling whatever emergency has come up, I’ve completely lost track of what I was doing in the first place!
Being organized is a big part of who I am. There is nothing I hate more than not being able to find something or to forget an important event (That paper was due when?!). What I find particularly amusing is that organization wasn’t very important to me until I had kids. (Just ask my mom how cluttered and disorganized I was in high school!) I’m not sure when that part of my brain decided to kick in, but I’ve found it actually helps my crazy household run somewhat smoothly.
Of course, I can’t keep everything running on my own. Here are some of my favorite organizational tools:
Evernote– This organizational app is awesome. I have it on my phone, kindle, and can access my account from my computer. I keep everything from grocery lists to writing ideas on this app. It is awesome to be able to create a note on my phone and then access it from just about anywhere. Best of all? It’s FREE! (You know I had to go a little Frugal Momma here!)
Family Calendars– While we aren’t into the days of soccer practice and dance recitals, with a 4 year old and an 8 month old, I know those days are rapidly approaching. I’ve found several really cute ideas on Pinterest that I’ll link to here, here, and here. If you aren’t crafty, or just don’t have the time, there are ready made calendars you can purchase.
Toggl– At times, I do some work from home gigs that require me to keep track of my own time. This free website helps me keep track of how much I’ve done for the day or week and what times I start and stop.
I still have my days where nothing on my to-do list gets done or I run behind but, thanks to these tools, I’m having less and less of those days.
